The Xprotolab is the first mixed signal oscilloscope with an arbitrary waveform generator in a DIP module. It measures only 1 x 1.6 inches, and can be mounted directly on a breadboard. The Xprotolab can also be used as a development board for the AVR XMEGA microcontroller.

I received the Xprotolab today and had it up and running in 10 minutes. I am very impressed. It is exactly what I need. The FFT is just amazing. I had been searching for this for a long time. The menu with just four buttons is easy and well designed. Just ordered an Xminilab for integration into an HF transceiver and an Xminilab portable for the shack.

I have to admit, this device worth every penny!There are several "pcb like" oscilloscopes on the market, however I choose this because it have an x-y input.Screen is small but I can read it easily. I am almost 50 years old, I haven't my twenty's vision, however I'm not wearing yet eyeglasses either. In my condition I can read every character on screen.The most impressive is the huge number of functions in this tiny device!I place my own DIY pcb behind it, to turn it into a powerful fully parametrical component tester (Tracer). Since then I make amazing measurements which I couldn't done them before, and all in an absolutely portable way.For power supply I use a micro-usb phone charger or a $5 powerbank, which last for days or even weeks!Thanks again!Wish list:Hide usb and serial connector behind screen, to make device even smaller, at the same screen size.May add a backwards menu button.Faster Auto trigger if possiblePlotless trace at XY mode.

I have both XProtoLab\'s, with screen and without. The one with the screen works very well when you can see it. You need a very good magnifier. The other you have to use the interface. I am running windows. The interface has so many problems I am just not sure where to begin. They have not updated it since I bought mine. Everything on the site is last YEAR.
The screen crashes but the board is still working. It is so unstable that its unusable. I would like to see some updates and if you have new firmware for the boards I would to get it.

This product is worth every cent! The display is beautiful and the features are rich. It is perfect for audio applications. You will have a lot of fun with this little device. Guaranteed.

However, there are two problems I\'d like to point out:

Problem 1:
It is IMPOSSIBLE to install the drivers on Windows 8. Microsoft doesn\'t allow you to install this driver unless you have a valid certificate (which one has to buy for sixty dollars). This is not necessarily a problem of the device itself, but rather a problem created by Microsoft.

Problem 2:
When one uses the waveform generator, the amplitude changes when generating signals over 10kHz. This problem should be fixable to an extent by code though... :/

Unbelievably useful UI. Every time I use it, I\'m amazed at how intuitive a 4 button interface can be... to a full-function DSO, and AWG, and everything else. Look at any DSO/analog scope... all those controls. Look at the Gabotronics PC interface... the 4 button UI is actually more intuitive and easier to use! Amazing, especially when you consider how many 4-button wristwatches out there make setting the time nearly impossible. I\'ve actually had to use a manual to figure out a stupid wristwatch. This little scope... 5 minutes of messing around and I was functional... no manual, nor any previous DSO experience (just old-school analog). It just makes perfect sense; it just does everything I want.

Best on site oscope to trouble shoot my installed arduino projects. I can carry this into my backyard or to a friends to work on projects. Most can\'t believe I am serious when I bring it out then marvel when I use it. One friend said it was cost effective to attach to a project and leave it. I love it so much I bought its parent the mini. Great job.

Great little device! Got my XProtoLab a week ago and the functionality really impressed me. The display-layout and menu structure is very well designed to give a convenient user-experience. Although there are only four buttons, I even did not need the user-manual to explore the core functions. For analyzing sub-MHz signals this device surely has the best price-performance-ratio you'll ever find!

I've had the XProtoLab now for several weeks now but I wanted to wait until I actually used it in a practical situation before I rated it. This weekend I was doing some experiments with my Arduino board. I had the arduino and XProtoLab on a large proto board running a stepper motor program. The XProtoLab was enormously useful for checking voltages and wave forms. This is what I call kitchen table electronics! This is a real tool!Butch Lacadie

Absolutely AWESOME product! Very professional implementation of a genuinely useful mixed signal o'scope. Well done firmware - NOT a demo - full function, extracts as much capability out of the hardware as possible. Permanent member of my tool box!!! Kit was easy to assemble, I used a coffee warmer hotplate and craft embossing (heat gun) with solder paste. Be careful with an iron, components are large, but tightly packed. Don't spend a lot of time on the OLED display connector, I pre-fluxed and pasted it, just "wiped" an iron set at ~300C over the pins to clean things up. (proper method is bar soldering). Display is a bit small for those of us over 50, but very readable, and once you understand the menu structure, you can setup a test quickly. I plugged an old cell phone charger into the micro-USB port, and now I have a portable, hand-held scope, stand-alone from the circuit under test. Thank you for all the hours invested in a high quality product!!!

I bought two XProtolabs for use with synthesizers, and am very pleased. I snapped one into a mini-breadboard, plugged in a USB cable for power, and had waveforms from my TinySizer immediately. I just got my Xprotolab today, first off, shipping was very very fast, and unit itself is a little gem, this thing goes to my travel kit without any hesitation, it's not going to replace full size O-Scope, but it's not it's purpose, I tried to calibrate one of my company's VTR units, with Xprotolab, and managed to do so, couldn't get as good resolution as our tektronix but sure enough VTR read/record tracks are well within spec, this is all proof I need. Now, when does COMA comes out to public you said?

This is one of the FUNNEST ATXMEGA products out there to play with, and it's a great MSO/AWG/Logic Analyzer/Protocol sniffer to boot. Don't let the small display fool you- the OLED module has wonderful contrast and is perfectly readable, even given the extremely small fonts. The menu system is intuitive, the feature set is incredible, and the price is simply unbeatable. So far there has been a constant stream of updates to the firmware, so the product continues to improve. I have used the new I2C sniffer, and it comes in really handy when trying to debug protocol problems. I'm very impressed with the thought that went into the design, and Gabriel has managed to take full advantage of the ATXMega32 (and get around some of its known limitations). Another great fact- the power consumption of this beast is hardly anything- only 40ma. You can take full advantage of the full open source as well (but the MSO code is not included.)
Watch the video, order up one or two, and have fun. You won't regret having this little gem in your stable of toys.
